Today is a big day for Greyparrot.
We’re announcing $27 million in Series B funding, led by investor Omar Mir, just as our AI passes one trillion waste detections.
Rewind to 2019, when Greyparrot was founded
When Ambarish, Nikola and I started Greyparrot, the idea we kept returning to was simple. You can't manage what you can't measure, and the world was throwing away enormous value it never bothered to look at. The waste sector was being asked to run a $2 trillion industry on manual sampling that covers less than 0.1% of the material passing through it. Everything downstream of that, every recovery decision, every packaging redesign, every piece of policy was guesswork based on very little data.
I've written about many milestone moments over the years. This is the one where the shape of our entire journey feels clearest.

From helping operators see, to a shared source of truth
When we began, the goal was to help waste facility operators see what was moving through their plants. We've made that a reality. Our AI camera systems now sit above sorting belts in recovery facilities across more than 20 countries, identifying every object's material, product and brand in real time.
The part I didn't fully anticipate is how far that intelligence would travel and the impact we're already achieving:
💰 Recycling leaders including WM, Circular Services, Murphy Road Recycling, Veolia, Biffa and SUEZ use it to improve recovery and run more profitable plants. Facilities using Greyparrot Analyzers are seeing 10–30% efficiency gains, with a single site saving more than $2M in a single year.
♻️ Consumer goods companies including Unilever, L'Oréal and Kenvue use our Deepnest platform to understand how their packaging performs after disposal, then redesign it with real evidence rather than assumptions.
💡 Policymakers are starting to use the same evidence base to shape initiatives like Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and compliance reporting.
I’m incredibly proud that our solution is already bringing the waste value chain together to recover more resources. Watching them start to align around one shared source of truth is the closest thing I've seen to the circular economy behaving like a system rather than an aspiration.

Regulation has turned visibility from an advantage into an obligation
This shift is happening faster because regulation is becoming ambitious. Extended Producer Responsibility is now live across much of the world, with the EU's PPWR raising the bar further. Measuring and reporting on material accurately and at scale is no longer a competitive edge. For producers and operators alike, it's becoming a requirement.
That's a tailwind we've been preparing for and it's a large part why we now have the right momentum to scale.
What this round builds
Practically, this funding lets us grow where demand is strongest and deepen our impact there: a larger Analyzer network, a richer dataset and more capable tools for turning waste into recoverable value.
This past years, my co-founders and I have carried the case for data-driven circularity to audiences well beyond our sector, from the UN's Global Waste Forum to Climate Week in New York, to World Economic Forum events, and that reception helped bring wider recognition to the urgent need for this technology.
None of this would exist without the people behind it. Thank you to our incredible pioneering customers, our investors for believing in this vision, and every single person at Greyparrot who has relentlessly and passionately built towards our mission from the very beginning.
This milestone belongs to so many people. The list is too long, but I see every one of you, and I’m incredibly grateful.
We're a trillion detections in, and I believe we're only now getting to the interesting part, the point where a circular economy stops being something we aspire to achieve and becomes something we can measure, build on and hold ourselves to.
